Governor of Erbil Visits the First PPP School in the Kurdistan Region
On November 23rd, 2008, the Governor of Erbil, Mr. Nawzad Hadi, along with other prominent individuals, visited the first SABIS® PPP (Public-Private Partnership) school established in Erbil, Kurdistan. The Fakhir Mergasori International School, which was named after the martyr Fakhir Mergasori, opened its doors in September 2008 under SABIS® management with staff who had been trained in the implementation of the SABIS® Educational System. The governor, along with Ms. Pakiza Talat, the General Director of Education in Erbil, was warmly welcomed by Mrs. Jwan Husny, the Director of the school and Mr. Raed Mahmoud, a SABIS® representative in Iraq.
The visitors were given a tour of the school and invited to see classes in action. The successful visit gave the governor a clear indication of what will serve as a model for improving education in Kurdistan.
The visit also included a meeting with the Ministry of Education teachers who are currently teaching students at the school and who have been trained by SABIS® trainers. Mr. Nawzad was supportive and encouraging to the local staff who teach alongside the foreign staff.
The visit served two purposes: one it allowed the Governor and other officials to witness first-hand the impact that SABIS® and its time-tested methods have on students and teachers. Two, it reinforced the government support to the PPP program.
