Students Donate Thousands of School Books to Refugees
On February 19, 2015, students in Grade 5 through Grade 8 at the Fakhir Mergasori International School (FMIS), a SABIS® PPP school, donated thousands of their old school books to refugees. The Social Responsibility Department, a sub-department of the SABIS Student Life Organization®, organized the charitable event.
The Social Responsibility Department asked students to bring in their old SABIS® books and donations were taken for two weeks. Afterward, the donation was given to refugees and displaced people at a refugee camp in Erbil, Kurdistan-Iraq.
The needy received the SABIS® books that students were no longer using in the classroom along with stationary. “I have donated all my old SABIS® books and I am feeling happy, because I made a difference in somebody’s life,” a student said.
Grade 5 through Grade 8 students learned that charity is something you give to, not only to help someone, but to change someone’s life. Giving generously to charity is a great example of how students are giving back to their community in such a big way.
“My son is not only learning academics at FMIS, but also building a character and getting involved in the social help that the school provides and always has such wonderful campaigns,” a parent said. These students are learning to become socially responsible citizens, one day at a time.
